Sunderland Learning Partnership - SLP
Sunderland
Learning Partnership (LSP) was established in 1998 to focus on
the action necessary to secure increased
knowledge and skill levels across all age
ranges in Sunderland. It is the learning arm of the
Local Strategic Partnership and a part of Tyne and Wear
Learning Partnership, through which it receives funding
from the local Learning + Skills Council to address
its priorities of regeneration and collaboration.
The belief that learning is central to the future
success of the City has long been coupled with a strong
and growing conviction that we will have the greatest
impact if we collaborate. We will achieve our aims by:
- Promoting innovative and flexible approaches
to learning
- Providing information, advice and guidance for
all
- Targeting children, young people and adults in vulnerable or disadvantaged situations
Sunderland Learning Partnership (SLP) brings together a wide
range of organisations from across the City.
SLP is part of Sunderland Local Strategic Partnership and is the local arm of
the Tyne and Wear Learning Partnership. The Partnership is funded by the Learning
and Skills Council, Tyne and Wear.
Sunderland
Learning Partnership has identified several priority areas which
require particular effort in order to raise educational standards
and increase the number of people accessing and participating
in learning opportunities. The learning partnership has a number

that involves working with families in school and community
settings.
- Participation group, this group works with local community
and voluntary groups to bring more people into learning.
- Basic Skills group, this group is working to increase learner
engagement and achievements in basic skills across the city.
- Skills group, this group is working with employers to address
emerging skills needs.
