Online Learning in Sunderland

liazeWhat is LIAZe? - Library Information Access Zone
LIAZe is a new direction for the City Public Library Service serving both former coalfield communities in the South West of Sunderland and Hendon in the city. LIAZe is an SRB-funded, community-based project that will change the way that many people learn about Information Communications Technologies (ICT) by making it fun and relevant.

The LIAZe computer bus (with 11 networked lap tops) can access local people by parking on the street, community centre, library, voluntary organisation or workplace and provide taster sessions, workshops or demonstrations to show you how you can use ICT to help you work, communicate and enjoy multi-media computing. There are also opportunities for local people to use a lap top on a short term loan basis to develop their ICT skills at home.

LIAZe is for all of the people who live in the South West and Hendon, but especially:

  • Local people who want to know about computers and who are unsure about their first steps into I.T.
  • Parents wanting to support their childrens learning at primary school.
  • People who need some computer skills to help with employment.
  • People who are not yet ready for a formal computer course.
  • Pupils in local primary schools, their teachers and parent helpers.
  • People who wish to continue with Lifelong Learning.
LIAZe can introduce you to CD ROMS and multi media, word processing, desktop publishing, clip art, the Internet and e-mail, digital photography, scanners, colour printing, DVD and music composition.

The Laptops to Go Scheme is available to those who wish to develop their I.T. skills between regular weekly visits to one of the LIAZe courses. A short term loan of up to 4 weeks can be agreed. A number of printers and scanners can also be loaned. Only in special cases will individuals be able to borrow the equipment as they may be disabled or have a special need which means that they are unable to access any other provision.
Contact LIAZe for more details

All sessions are hands on and free.
