Electronic Village Halls - Locations


Below are details of some of the EVH locations. Within Sunderland there is a whole range of free internet access points across the City, and in designated UK Online Centres you will be able to get friendly help to get surfing.

So if you know someone who might want a little help in getting started, then point them to one of the UK Online Centres or Electronic Village Halls in the City and you could be opening up a whole new world for them.


Inside Doxford Park Electronic Village HallDoxford Park EVH

Doxford Park Electronic Village Hall is located in a purpose built extension to Doxford Park Community Library. The centre was opened in December 2000 and provides free access to a range of computer-based equipment and resources.

Doxford Park Electronic Village Hall offers: -  

  • Free access to 20 multimedia PCs with Microsoft Office software, networked CD-ROMs and subscription web sites
  • Free access to the Internet and e-mail
  • Fax, photocopying and facilities
  • Networked colour and black and white printing for a small fee  
  • Lifelong Learning Opportunities including access to City of Sunderland

Hendon Learning CentreHendon EVH

Hendon Learning Centre is a community based lifelong learning facility provided in partnership between the City's library service and City of Sunderland College. The centre specialises in Basic Skills and return to learning courses using both computer based and traditional learning methods. It is based in Hendon Community Library and offers: -

  • Free access to 16 computers for both learning and drop in use  
  • Free computer courses including Return to Learn through Computers  
  • A range of free courses including Return to Learn Literacy and Numeracy and English for Speakers of Other Languages  
  • LearnDirect on line courses
  • Two dedicated staff to provide tuition, advice and support

Hetton Learning Centre is a community based lifelong learning facility provided in partnership between the City's library service and the City of Sunderland College. The centre is located in the new Hetton Centre  and provides drop in access to a range of ICT courses. 

The facility offers:

  • Free access to 20 computers for lifelong learning purposes  
  • Drop in access to a range of free ICT courses including Computers for Absolute Beginners, CLAIT, IBT2, Desktop Publishing and PowerPoint.
  • Enhanced scanning and printing facilities
  • Dedicated staff on hand to provide guidance and help

The Electronic Village Hall, which holds 25 PC's, aims to deliver courses to meet the needs of the local community.

Washington EVH

Washington Town Centre Electronic Village Hall is a facility providing free access to a range of ICT technology and lifelong learning opportunities. The centre is located in the basement of Washington Town Centre Library in a self-contained area. Staff are on hand to give you help and guidance on using computers, the Internet and e-mail. Tutors from the City of Sunderland College are also available to give advice and support.

  • Free access to 23 multimedia PCs with Microsoft Office software and networked CD-ROMs  
  • Free access to the Internet and e-mail  
  • Flat bed scanner, fax and photocopying facilities
