We are a caring college. Each student is assigned a personal tutor who will
be your first contact and friend throughout your time with us.
We have helped thousands of students reach their goals, particularly in progressing
to university. This year over 600 students progressed to higher education.
We have the best exam results compared to any other college in the region.
We also have better results than any other college in the country of a similar
size and population cohort.
We offer a whole range of social and recreational activities,
which enable our students to develop personally, meet new friends
and be challenged by
a wide of variety of young people from many different backgrounds.
Free ICT courses are available to suit all ability levels
with ‘Open Access Centres’ that put you in control
of what time you wish to study. If you wish, you can
attend at the same day and time throughout the course
or if you prefer, you can vary your attendance to
suit your needs. All you have to do is choose a
course and then either turn up within the opening

The College’s Educational Guidance Service offers prospective
and current learners access to informal, impartial, supportive
and
timely guidance on many aspects of studying at City of
Sunderland College. We offer assistance to clients and students
seeking help about education, learning and training
opportunities. Appointments can be offered at any
of the main College sites and various Outreach locations

Childcare
City of Sunderland College has excellent childcare facilities that
are available to our students at three of our main College
centres. These facilities are run by experienced childcare
providers in order to offer a quality service. Childcare
provision is available during the day for under 5’s as follows:
Bede
Centre Facility - Crèche
Shiney
Row Centre Facility - Crèche
Hylton
Centre Facility - Nursery
You should book a place before you enrol on the course(s), as
places may be limited. To book a place for either the Bede or
Shiney Row Centre, please contact the College’s Welfare
Services on (0191) 511 6323 or 511 6384.
For Hylton Centre bookings please contact us on (0191)
549 7350. Crèche facilities are only available
for up to 4 hours in any one-day - in line with the Children’s Act guidance.
The College also offers a Childminding Allowance Scheme in
exceptional circumstances where places within the College provision are limited – please contact the College’s
Welfare Services on (0191) 511 6323 or 511 6817 for more information about this scheme.
If you are 16-18 then specific help may be available for childcare
costs. Please call the Care to Learn Helpline on 0845
